HUMOUR
A man emailed a hotel he planned to visit on his vacation. He
wrote, "I would very much like to bring my dog with me. He
is well-groomed and very well behaved. Would you be willing to
permit me to keep him in my room with me at night?"
An immediate reply came from the hotel, who wrote: "I've
been operating this hotel for many years. In all that time, I've
never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes, silverware or pictures
off the walls. I've never had to evict a dog in the middle of the
night for being drunk and disorderly. And I've never had a dog run
out on a hotel bill. Yes, indeed, your dog is welcome at my hotel.
And, if your dog will vouch for you, you're welcome to stay here,
too."
A POSTER THAT SAYS IT ALL...
JUST A DOG - by Richard Biby
From time to time, people tell me, “lighten up, it’s just a dog,” or,
“that’s a lot of money for just a dog.”
They don’t understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for “just a dog.”
Some of my proudest moments have come about with “just a dog.”
Many hours have passed and my only company was “just a dog,” but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by “just a dog,” and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of “just a dog” gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it’s “just a dog,” then you will probably understand phases like "just a friend,” “just a sunrise,” or “just a promise.”
“Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.
“Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.
Because of “just a dog” I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.
So for me and folks like me, it’s not “just a dog” but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.
“Just a dog” brings out what’s good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand that it’s not “just a dog” but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a human.”
So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog.” just smile, because they “just don’t understand.”
My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
Give me time to understand what you want of me.
Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
Don’t be angry with me for long and don’t lock me up as punishment. You have your work,
your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
Talk to me. Even if I don’t understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet I choose not to bite you.
Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me.
Perhaps I’m not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old
or weak.
Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me, please. Never say you can’t bear to watch.
Don’t make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there because I love
you so.
FAVOURITE QUOTES
"Saving one dog won't change the world, but it will change the world for that one dog." (Author Unknown)
"It came to me that every time I lose a dog, they take a piece of my heart with them. And every
new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the
components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." (Author Unknown)
"If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together... there is something you must always remember.
You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important
thing is, even if we're apart... I'll always be with you." (Winnie the Pooh)
